Torremolinos is one of Spain’s most popular gay destinations, famous for its sandy beaches, huge gay scene around La Nogalera, and seemingly endless calendar of gay parties and festivals. In this guide, we share our favorite gay hotels, bars, clubs, beaches, cruising spots, and more, based on our own first-hand experience.
We’ll admit it: for years, Torremolinos was one of those places we kept hearing about but somehow never quite made it to.
Every summer our Instagram feed would suddenly fill with half of gay Europe squeezed into tiny Speedos on a beach somewhere near Málaga. Then came Pride. Then Mad Bear. Then Matrix. Then another party. And another. Eventually we started wondering whether anyone actually lived in Torremolinos or whether the entire town was simply one enormous gay festival with apartments attached.
Torremolinos has somehow managed to squeeze a gay beach, dozens of gay bars, clubs, cruising venues, a gay sauna and one of Spain’s busiest calendars of gay events into a surprisingly compact seaside town. Most of the nightlife is concentrated around La Nogalera, while the Mediterranean is only a short walk away.

Is Torremolinos safe for gay travelers?
Very much so! It felt like we were in one of the gayest places on the planet. We felt comfortable being openly gay in Torremolinos, holding hands walking in La Nogalera and on the beachfront. This is a destination where same-sex couples are very visible, and the gay community isn't hidden away in one discreet little bar. It's woven into the tourism scene.
Our main safety concerns were the same ones we have at any busy European beach resort or festival: phones, wallets, and valuables. Crowded clubs and festivals are prime environments for phone theft, so we keep ours secured rather than sitting temptingly in a back pocket.
Why is Torremolinos so popular with gay travelers?
The first thing that struck us about Torremolinos was the sheer size of its gay scene. Similar to Agia Napa in Cyprus, Torremolinos began as a humble fishing village that grew in size to become the party mecca it is known for today.
Torremolinos became a magnet for artists, celebrities, and gay travelers during the tourism boom of the 1950s and 1960s. Pasaje Begoña (Begona Passage), close to today's gay area, became home to a thriving collection of bars and clubs where gay people could meet relatively openly during Franco's dictatorship. A major police raid in 1971 became an important moment in Spain's LGBTQ history. As such, Pasaje Begoña is regarded as the birthplace of the modern-day LGBTQ+ movement in Spain.
Fast-forward to today, and Torremolinos has one of the biggest gay scenes on the Costa del Sol (the coastal region in Andalusia).
Where is the gay area of Torremolinos?
The heart of gay Torremolinos is La Nogalera, right in the center of town. More specifically, the gay scene of Torremolinos spills around Plaza de la Nogalera and the surrounding streets, particularly Calle Danza Invisible and Calle Casablanca.
The first time we walked through it, we realized the word “area” makes it sound much bigger than it actually is. La Nogalera is compact. Bars are tucked into little passageways, terraces spill out into the pedestrianized areas, and clubs hide downstairs or around corners.
Where should gay travelers stay in Torremolinos?
We recommend staying somewhere between La Nogalera and the beachfront so you're close to the gay nightlife and also within a stone's throw of the Mediterranean. If you're visiting as a group of friends, we recommend renting an apartment from a site like Misterbnb. When it comes to gay friendly hotels, the world's your oyster here! Pick anyone in the area that suits your budget. If heading here during one of the big events, we guarantee this hotel will be packed full of gays 🙂

- Hotel Ritual Torremolinos: the famous gay hotel of Torremolinos. It's an adults-only gay hotel overlooking the sea with pools, a spa and sauna, and a rooftop nudist area. We love the location – between La Nogalera and the gay beach. Also worth noting, Ritual runs the Marta, Cariño! gay bar.
- Maracuya Gay House: a more intimate gay hotel with the best names ever for each room – Cucumber, Banana, Eggplant, Peach…you get the gist 🙂 Has also earnt the Booking.com #TravelProud certification.
- Fénix Torremolinos: adults-only and gay friendly with a Booking .com #TravelProud certification. It is close to La Nogalera as well as the beach.
- Meliá Costa del Sol: for something more upscale – beachfront luxury, located right on the Paseo Marítimo promenade. It has also obtained the Booking.com #TravelProud certification, so you know it's gay friendly.

Where is the gay beach in Torremolinos?
The main gay beach of Torremolinos is Playa del Bajondillo by the Eden Beach Club. By day, this stretch of sand becomes one of the town's main gay gathering spots. During big events like the Matrix Sun Festival or Torremolinos Pride.
The Eden Beach Club is THE focal point of the gay beach in Torremolinos. It gets very social, particularly during the big gay festivals, making it one of our favorite gay beaches in Europe.

What are the best gay bars in Torremolinos?
There are so many gay bars in Torremolinos packed around La Nogalera that we could publish (another!) book just on this! So, we've taken a slice of the best and featured them here:
- Lights Bar: the sort of place we like starting a night: lively, camp without taking itself too seriously, and right in the thick of La Nogalera. We love the drag shows here.
- Men's Bar: attracts a more mature, predominantly male crowd and gets busier later in the evening. There's also a small cruising area downstairs.
- Eagle Bar: no gay scene in the world is complete without an obligatory Eagle Bar, right? From the gay scene of Tokyo to Manchester. This is Torremolinos, and it does not disappoint 🙂
- 3 Monkeys: one of La Nogalera's popular terrace bars and a good option earlier in the evening for pre-drinks.
- El 12: cute gay bar in Torremolinos that's more relaxed. Love the drag shows here that feature local drag artists like Miss Tiffany Lumberjack.
- Vida Bar: cute queer terrace bar inside La Nogalera that appeals to everyone in our LGBTQ+ family.
- Las Vegas Copas: the best gay bar in Torremolinos for drag shows. LV Copas calls itself a Show Bar for good reason!

What are the best gay clubs in Torremolinos?
My heads-up reminder when going out clubbing in Torremolinos: this is Spain! Ie, don't bother coming to the club before 2 am. It will be pretty sparse! Here's our take on the best gay clubs in Torremolinos we vibed with the most:
- Centuryon: one of the big names in gay Torremolinos nightlife that attracts the circuit crowd, especially during major events with parties like Macho and Spartans.
- Aqua Emporio: located right in the heart of La Nogalera and one of the best gay clubs in Torremolinos – we thought so. If there's a large party happening in town, it will likely be hosted here.
- Parthenon: our pick when we're craving pop music. There's plenty of Spanish and international pop rather than wall-to-wall circuit music, which provides a very welcome reset after several nights of boom boom boom.
- Big One Club: a new addition to the Torremolinos gay club scene. It opened in 2026 on Calle Casablanca with two rooms and different parties.
What are the best gay cruising clubs in Torremolinos?
Not gonna lie, one thing we love about the gay scene of Madrid and Torremolinos is how hot and cruisey the guys are. There are a handful of clubs to check out for some of the best rompy pompy this side of the globe. Naturally, we've done the hard work for you:
- Exxxtreme and Conexxxtion: THE best gay cruising club in Torremolinos. It's on Calle Casablanca and combines a bar with a large, dark cruising labyrinth. Conexxxtion operates as part of the same setup downstairs.
- Cuero Cruising Club: smaller and more intimate, with different themed and dress-code nights.
- XXL Torremolinos: another dedicated men's cruising club, with cabins, play areas and fetish-friendly nights.
- Alcatraz: a smaller gay cruising club in central Torremolinos.
What is the gay sauna in Torremolinos like?
The main gay sauna in Torremolinos is Sauna Apolo, located around 1.5 miles (2.5km) south of La Nogalera towards La Carihuela. It has the usual gay-sauna setup with steam and sauna facilities, Jacuzzi/pool areas, cabins, and cruising spaces.
Sunday afternoons and evenings are traditionally among the busiest times, particularly when there's a big gay event happening in town. But to be brutally honest, after a weekend at Matrix, the only steam room we were interested in was one containing electrolytes and an eight-hour nap…
What are the biggest gay events in Torremolinos?
The big gay events and parties happening in Torremolinos are the main reasons why we'll be back, especially Torremolinos Pride in late May/early June, and the Matrix Sun Festival in August. Torremolinos isn't a destination where the gay scene suddenly appears for Pride and disappears again afterwards. It's just over 3 hours by train from Madrid, so the gay boys of Chueca head here on weekends for beach gay fun in the sun throughout the year.
But as I said, during the big events, it becomes extra gay, extra fun here. Here are some of the best gay events happening in Torremolinos that we think you should bookmark and plan your trip around:
Torremolinos Pride: late May/early June
Torremolinos Pride is the headline event, usually taking place around late May/early June. The town fills with visitors for concerts, parties, events, and the Pride parade, with La Nogalera naturally becoming the center of the action. If Pride is the reason for our trip, we'd book accommodation well ahead.
K1nk Weekend: June
Kink Weekend brings the f3tish crowd to Torremolinos, usually in June. With the town already having a strong cruising and leather scene, this feels like a pretty natural fit rather than an event parachuted into a random beach resort.
Mad Bear Beach Festival: August
Mad Bear Beach Festival brings the bears to the Costa del Sol during summer. Expect beach time, pool parties, club nights and a considerably higher concentration of furry torsos around La Nogalera.
Matrix Sun Festival: August
Matrix Sun Festival was the reason for our first-ever gay trip to Torremolinos and one of the best gay festivals in Europe. And what a way to introduce ourselves! Matrix takes over the town with several days of huge circuit parties, pool and beach events, and international DJs. Infinity Festival: October
Infinity Festival extends the gay festival calendar into autumn, giving us yet another excuse to return after the peak summer madness has calmed down. This is something we really like about Torremolinos: there's almost always another gay weekend around the corner.
What are the best things to do in Torremolinos?
We'll be completely transparent: sightseeing was not the main focus of our Torremolinos trip. We were there during Matrix. Our cultural itinerary occasionally consisted of admiring the inside of our eyelids until lunchtime. But there's much more to Torremolinos than La Nogalera.
The town has around 7km of coastline, so we'd spend at least one proper day exploring the beaches and walking along the Paseo Marítimo. We'd also wander through La Carihuela, stop for seafood, explore the center around Calle San Miguel, and leave enough time simply to enjoy being beside the Mediterranean.
For some culture, we recommend heading to Málaga. It's only 9 miles (15km) from Torremolinos by Uber. Málaga has a beautiful pedestrianized historic center, a waterfront made for aimless wandering, and Calle Larios, its grand shopping street where enormous seasonal decorations and installations hang overhead.
Málaga is also Picasso's hometown – the famous painter was born right here in 1881. We recommend checking out the Museo Picasso Málaga.
When is the best time to visit gay Torremolinos?
For us, this depends entirely on what sort of Torremolinos we want. Late spring brings warm weather and Pride without quite reaching the furnace temperatures of midsummer.
July and August are peak gay Torremolinos: beaches are packed, nightlife is at full throttle, and the major festivals bring thousands to town.
September and early autumn would probably be our pick for a more relaxed gay holiday. The weather is still beautiful, the gay scene remains active, especially during the Infinity Festival in October. Winter is quieter. Plenty remains open, but it won't be as busy as the summer months.
How do we get to Torremolinos?
This is the other thing we love about Torremolinos. Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is just 10-15 minutes away by Uber. All major budget airlines fly to Málaga Airport from major European destinations.
The C1 commuter train connects Málaga Airport with Torremolinos. Once you're in central Torremolinos, places are within walking distance. We wouldn't bother hiring a car for a gay weekend centered around La Nogalera.
Our top tips for gay Torremolinos
- Stay close to La Nogalera: this was the biggest win for us. Being able to walk home rather than negotiate taxis at 6 am made life infinitely easier.
- Don't start the night too early: Torremolinos operates on Spanish time. The bars come alive late and the clubs later still.
- Don't try to do every party: we learned this during Matrix. FOMO is powerful. So is exhaustion.
- Book early for major gay events: Pride, Matrix and the big bear/fetish weekends can transform the town.
- Secure phones and wallets: particularly in packed clubs and major events.
- Build in recovery time: this is now non-negotiable for us. A beach afternoon or deliberately empty morning can rescue an entire trip.
- Check venues before heading out: opening nights and hours can change depending on the season.
- Spend some time outside La Nogalera: yes, we know. Heresy! But La Carihuela, the beaches and nearby Málaga are worth sacrificing one afternoon of gay-bar research for.
- Be careful with the candy(!): During major party weekends, we recommend exercising caution with the candy. Police checks happen all the time, especially undercover police, so anything you know you shouldn't have on your person, make sure is either locked away in your hotel or safely stuffed inside your shoe or underwear!
- Pack electrolytes: Stefan used to mock Seby for this. Stefan no longer mocks Seby for this…
- Travel insurance: Always. It's boring until the exact moment it isn't.

So… is Torremolinos worth visiting for gay travelers?
Absolutely!
And we finally understand why so many of our friends keep going back. What surprised us most wasn't any individual bar, beach, or party. It was having everything nicely compact together. We could spend the afternoon surrounded by gays on the beach, walk home, nap, have dinner, wander into La Nogalera, bounce between bars, dance until sunrise, and do the whole thing without spending half our holiday sitting in taxis.
And the scene has variety.
One night can be drag and pop. Another can be bears and f3tish bars. Another can end in a cruising club. Then Matrix rolls into town, and suddenly we're standing in the middle of an enormous circuit party wondering why we thought attending four events in 48 hours was remotely sensible…
Torremolinos isn't polished in the way that some Mediterranean resorts are, and that's part of why we liked it. It's fun, compact, slightly chaotic, unapologetically gay, and doesn't seem remotely interested in going to bed early.
