We feature the best gay hotels in Athens to suit all budgets, from chic boutique gems to lavish retreats, ensuring a stay that’s as stylish, welcoming, and full of Greek charm as the city itself.
Athens holds a special place in our hearts. It’s where we first learned that the Greek gods were as dramatic as a season finale of Drag Race and where we discovered that no matter how much gym time we put in, we’d never achieve those chiseled ancient-statue abs…
Beyond the ruins and the ridiculously good food (seriously, we’d move here just for the souvlaki), the gay scene of Athens is always exciting. The Gazi district is the beating heart of it, with bars like Sodade2 and Big Bar keeping the party going till sunrise.

And, of course, we’ve made it our mission to find the best places to stay for all budgets including chic boutique hotels to luxury stays where you’ll be pampered like an Olympian.
So, if you’re planning a Greek getaway, here’s our list of the best gay-friendly hotels in Athens, some we have personally tried, others have been recommended by gay locals in the city as well as fellow LGBTQ+ travelers. We recommend you bookmark our Greece gay travel guide to help plan your trip to the rest of the country.
Heads up, in this guide we've also featured hotels that have the Booking.Com #TravelProud certification which confirms it has undergone the Proud Hospitality training to ensure it is welcoming to all LGBTQ+ travelers. For more check out this video they posted on their YouTube channel:

How gay friendly is Athens?
If Zeus were around today, we're pretty sure he'd be waving a rainbow flag atop the Acropolis. The LGBTQ+ laws of Greece have undergone a fabulous transformation, with Athens emerging as one of Europe's most welcoming cities for LGBTQ+ travelers. In February 2024, Greece made history by becoming the first Orthodox Christian country to legalize same-sex marriage and adoption, a landmark reform that signaled a new era of acceptance and equality.
Our personal experiences as an openly gay couple in Athens have been nothing short of delightful. Strolling hand-in-hand through the city's ancient streets, we've always felt embraced by the local community. The vibrant neighborhood of Gazi stands out as the epicenter of Athens' gay scene. Here, the nightlife is as energetic as a Greek wedding dance, with venues like Sodade2, a stylish club boasting two dance floors, and Shamone, renowned for its fabulous drag shows.

Gazi

In a nutshell
- Located inside a gay sauna…need we say more?!
- Endless “networking” opportunities(!)

Some hotels claim to be gay-friendly. Alexander Apartments skips the formalities and plants you right in the middle of Athens’ steamiest gay hotspot…literally! This isn’t just an apartment. It’s an apartment inside a gay sauna. Yes, you read that right.
If you’re the type who prefers a quiet night in, this might not be for you. But if the idea of stepping out of your room straight into a world of towel-clad men, dark rooms, and bubbling Jacuzzis excites you… well, welcome home! We stayed here and let’s just say, getting a “good night’s sleep” was optional. However, if that is your vibe, our heads up would be to stay here on a weekend as it’s not that busy on a weekday.
Despite the (ahem!) extracurricular activities available, the apartments themselves are modern, clean, and surprisingly peaceful. You’re also in a great location to explore the city, though we won’t blame you if you never make it past the front door.
